Hi. Thanks for visiting.
Seven years ago, a group of friends at Lake Oswego High School started a fantasy league. We called ourselves A Level Above. For league members like myself – cut from the sophomore baseball team – ALA provided an outlet for my competitive nature when I found myself divulged of relevant athletic talent. It gave me an opportunity to turn my interest in sports into a little cash if I played my cards right. And of course, the bragging rights an ALA Championship provided went beyond any monetary value. Our early years were many things: they were competitive (our first four years of fantasy basketball saw four different champions); they were cutthroat (before such practices were outlawed, some league members paid others for trade approvals and objections); they were controversial (one league member created a political cartoon comparing the Commissioner to Osama bin Laden). But most importantly, they were fun. And they gave us one more reason to talk #$@! to each other.
Fast forward to 2008. This February, we launched the ALA Championship Series – a nine-game, year-round competition which awards prizes based on all-around performance in our fantasy games and bracket pools, while still maintaining individual prize pools for each event. We’ve created a website, a Facebook group, a PayPal account. We’re going all out. And we want you to be a part of it.
You can find out everything you want to know about A Level Above by browsing this website. Our homepage has stories detailing the latest developments in our games. The Players’ Club features profiles of all of our fantasy “athletes.” I’ll let you look around – but there are a couple things you should know before you do so.
Anyone is welcome to play in our games. In fact, we encourage you to do just that. The bigger our pools are, the fiercer the competition will be, and the more will be at stake – both in terms of prize pools and bragging rights.
Each of our nine games has an independent buy-in and prize pool. Play in one game if you’d like, or play in them all. To qualify for the year-round ALACS prizes, you must play in six of our games per year.
I’d like to thank you for taking the time to visit our site, and I hope that you’ll join us in our pursuit of fantasy sports excellence and massive prize pools. Feel free to contact us at alafantasysports@gmail.com if you have any questions, comments, or thoughts that you’d like to share with us.
May the best fantasy athlete win.
